Polypodium leucotomos  extract(wild polypody extract:natural ecdysone).

The active  ingredient : 10% Triterpene : ( include ecdysone and 20-hydroxyecdysone .)

The function : it has been used as a sunscreen to prevent sunburn and associate skin damage.

Although topical sunscreen  formulations provide

varied levels of protection against UV-A and UV-B radiation ;  protect from burning .

Aqueous extract of the root of P. leucotomos (PL) produced CNS depressant effect.

 It decreased the spontaneous motor activity, prolonged the pentobarbitone induced hypnosis, reduced body temperature and increased the reaction time to pain stimuli.

PL also caused prevention against supramaximal electroshock and pentylenetetrazol induced seizures.

PL showed a positive inotropic and chronotropic effect on perfused frog heart and caused hypotension and tachycardia in anaesthetised dogs.

 The effects were blocked by propranolol. PL produced dose dependent inhibition of contractions of rabbit small intestine and the effect was blocked by propranolol. PV appears to possess CNS depressant and beta-adrenoceptor agonistic activities.

The fresh root used to be employed in extract, or powdered, for melancholia and also for rheumatic swelling of the joints. It is efficacious in jaundice, dropsy and scurvy, and combined with mallows removes hardness of the spleen, stitches in the side and colic.

The distilled water of the roots and leaves was considered by the old herbalists good for ague, and the fresh or dried roots, mixed with honey and applied to the nose, were used in the cure of polyps. However, modern research has identified a carcinogenic compound in the plant and consumption is discouraged.
